At this year Qld Cake Expo, we want to encourage schools to attend and enter the competitions for baking or the decorating competitions. Many of this year's expo committee expressed that involving our children in the kitchen is a great way of bringing a family together. Whether it is trying to bake scones or attempting the first batch of cupcakes ever,
creativity is what most of us love to be involved in and not everyone gets the chance to experience it.
Maria and Jackie, 2 of our committee members are organising appointments times, to meet with local schools to let them know about our competitions, happening this August 2019.
New for this year is our baking competitions and the variety of categories, to compete in.
Advise for the teachers on how to achieve great outcomes for the competitors and assist with collecting the baking entries the day before and delivering the entries if required.
If you know of any school that would be interested please let us know by contacting us at the bottom of this page.
We want to extend an invite to schools that do compete, to attend a school tour of our Qcda Cake Expo,
at no cost to their school and with free admission.
Fri 23rd August 2019 10 am to 2 pm
We will be meeting our school groups approx 10 am and then attend a group demonstration.
A group demonstration for all school attendees will be in a separate classroom area, with close up cameras so that everyone will be able to see.
The demonstration will be about fondant, how to cover a cake and use on cupcakes, cookies and more.
All students will have the chance for Q & A
We will then stop for a short break and refreshments and of course, some cake will be available.
We will divide our school visitors, into smaller groups,
according to our numbers that have booked and will alternate the groups for the below activities.
We have planned a tour behind the scenes to visit some of the teachers in their workshops to see what has been created so far in their workshops.
Emma Jayne from Wales Great Britain will be halfway through her 2-day modelling class of the Puss In Boots Character and the students will get to discover how Emma uses an armature for the framework for tall chocolate sculptures.
Next a visit to Cassie Brown from the UK, airbrush workshop, who will demonstrate how she uses an airbrush on her cakes, figurines and sugar work.
Next, we will give the students an Italian lesson as we introduce them to Barbara Luraschi from Italy, who has a beautiful accent! Barbara is amazing at modelling figurines and is amazing to watch.
Lastly, we will visit Anna-Maria a pastry chef and cake artist and will be teaching a handbag class with a beautiful sugar flower.
The next part of our tour will be viewing the winning entries of the baking competitions and reading the feedback for any of the competitors, that entered from the schools.
Competition cakes and branch displays will also be viewed and discussed.
School students will then have the opportunity to visit the demonstration areas and watch more demonstrations. Meet the vendors and see the latest products and gadgets, emerging from this sweet industry. The sweetness is ever growing, thanks to some of the TV programmes with Great Bake Off and Cake Wars.
